(Continued from family corner parent tip)

....So I got creative. We spent a while talking about how he is a big boy now and binkies are only for babies. Then I suggested that he could give his binkies to babies who need them. So we got out a box and some wrapping paper, he colored the blank side of the paper with crayons and markers, we put all SEVEN of his binkies in the box and wrapped it up. We then left it by his bedroom window for the "Binky Fairy" to come get while he was sleeping (hey, it works for the Tooth Fairy!) and take the binkies to babies who don't have any.

He was SO excited during the whole process and he was a little trooper the next few nights as he adjusted to sleeping without his beloved binky. He cried and didn't sleep too well those nights, but he never once asked for it back. He's still talks about how he gave his binkies to the babies.-Jen

My daughter weaned herself from the binkie at 4 mos. I fought my son to use one until he was 5months! He only wanted my breast or my index finger!!! Anyhow time wore on and I couldn't bearthe thought of a walker with a binkie in his mouth since our daughter didn't so at 10 months I threw it away flat. We just kept really busy and distracted, I think it was more a pacifier for me than him!!!-Connie
